Vcheck

Large, multifaceted building signifying reputational risk.

Problem

Vcheck’s client was considering a partnership with a relatively young investment firm to collaborate on a new round of investments. However, the client was wary about the firm’s founder (the Subject) and requested that Vcheck investigate their track record. Our investigators took up the challenge, using public records research to learn that the last firm the Subject founded failed. Still, Vcheck’s investigators couldn’t detect any adverse findings. Open-source public records couldn’t pinpoint “what happened” and “why” the Subject’s last business failed.

Solution

Leveraging their investigative due diligence capabilities, Vcheck’s investigators discreetly drew on a network of sources familiar with the Subject, uncovering that the individual significantly misrepresented their experience and expertise. Discreet source inquiries uncovered underwhelming and largely negative commentary on the Subject. Multiple sources expressed that the Subject oversold their expertise, experience, and track record–the lack thereof leading to their last business’s failure.

Impact

Investigators revealed their findings to the client, who was surprised by the scope of results. In short, Vcheck’s investigative due diligence saved the client from a partnership with a reputationally risky investor with an oversold skillset.
